Let’s Talk About Peptides

Everything you need to know about peptides.

Peptides are one of the most talked-about ingredients in the skincare industry – and for a good reason. They can complement any skincare routine to help provide powerful anti-aging benefits.

What are Peptides, exactly?

Peptides, also called polypeptides, are a short chain of amino acids that act as the building blocks of your skin’s proteins, such as elastin, keratin, and collagen. These proteins are what gives your skin its structure, texture, and resilience. As we age, our body slows the production of these proteins, which can result in wrinkles, fine lines, sagging skin, and an overall change in texture. Boo.

How Do They Work?

While our body can make proteins naturally, the production begins to slow down as we age, and we lose about 1% of our collagen every year after once we hit 30. Peptides are small enough to penetrate the outer layer of the skin and they can be added to moisturizers, serums, and masks. When absorbed by the skin, they act as little messengers that send signals to the other cells to begin producing collagen. Yay!

What Are the Benefits of Peptides?

  • Minimising appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Because they stimulate collagen production, they can reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Reduce inflammation. Peptides have anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe irritated skin, reduce redness, and repair damaged skin.
  • Increase skin firmness. The elastin in your skin is boosted by adding peptides leading to firmer, more toned skin.
  • Improved skin barrier. Adding peptides to your skincare routine can help strengthen your skin barrier; protecting against pollution, bacteria, UV rays, and more.
  • Boosts hydration. By stimulating collagen production in your skin, peptides can also boost hydration.
  • Heals wounds and reduces the appearance of scars. Peptides work hard to heal your skin by triggering your body’s response to heal wounds and can improve the appearance of scars caused by acne.

Some great products that contain peptides

Peptides are essential for the building blocks of some of the proteins that make up your skin’s texture, firmness, and structure. Using products that include this stellar ingredient in your regular skincare routine can have instant and longterm benefits.

How I create big, textured, tousled hair ☝️ How I create big, textured, tousled hair ☝️

Step 1. Dry shampoo, disperses evenly throughout the hair. I’m using @amika Perk It Up at the moment. Leave it to sit for a minute, then work in with your fingers. And then brush through.

Step 2. A curling wand. I use @instylerireland. Grab big sections and twist away from the face. For bangs, I like to pull forward and down, and then wave away from the face. Leave hair to cool for a minute or two.

Step 3. Texture spray. I’m using @lovekmireland Doo Over here. Lift sections of the hair and spritz underneath. Don’t spritz on top as this will weigh down and mattify the hair. Do this evenly throughout your hair, and then work in with your fingers.

Step 4. Root lift. I only ever use @oribe Dry Texturising Spray for this. I’ve never found anything as good as it. Again, lift up sections of hair (but only at the root), and spritz underneath. Do this evenly.m throughout - about three sections on each side of the head. Then spend a good minute working in with your fingers.

And there you have it. Big textured, tousled hair 👋

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month and National Su May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month and National Sunscreen Day is on May 27th, so let’s talk about sunscreen 🧴

☀️ Wearing sunscreen every day is the single best thing you can do for your skin. It’s the BEST anti-aging ingredient on the market.

☀️ Broad spectrum sunscreen reduces your chances of sunburn, of developing fine lines and wrinkles and pigmentation. It also gives your skin the opportunity to repair itself from damage that has previously occurred.

☀️ The way to get the stated SPF protection level on the bottle is by applying two milligrams of sunscreen per centimeter squared. That’s a solid amount of sunscreen. Make sure you’re applying a good dollop; a handful; at least a two finger amount.

☀️ Apply liberally to your face, neck, chest, backs of your hands and your ears (and any other exposed skin!).

☀️ Always use a standalone SPF. Using moisturiser or foundation with SPF is no good. The amount you put on your face will not give you sufficient coverage.

☀️ There are so many great sunscreens on the market, but the best one for you is the one you’ll actually use every day. Find one you love, one that feels good on your skin and works well under makeup, and stick with it.

Did you know Ruby Woo was created by accident? 💋
The MAC team attempted to tweak the formula of Russian Red (another classic) and Ruby Woo was the result. It was launched in 1999 as part of a new lipstick collection called Retro Matte and has been a bestseller ever since!
One of my all-time favourite, forever and ever lipsticks 💄
