The Weekend Post – Things I’ve been loving

It’s still only May but it might as well be the middle of July the way the weather is carrying on over here. Right now it’s 40 degree’s at one of clock in the afternoon. Imagine! Thank god for aircon is all I’ll say, otherwise I may have a heat-related nervous breakdown. Anyways, as I’ve been so rudely shoved into the middle of Summer, I felt the need to change up some of the products I’ve been using and I’ve also discovered some new fabby ones.

I mentioned in my April Favourites video that I’ve been loving CK One Summer lately, it smells nice and the bottle is so pretty and colourful. A few days ago however, I received a gift of Eternity Summer by Calvin Klein and immediately died of happiness looking at the packaging. All peachy and pretty and girly and once I’d doused myself in it, I decided that’s exactly how the scent made me feel too. It’s soooo summery I just can’t even explain it, it’s light and pretty and delicious and reminds me of my Mum for some reason. Needless to say, it’s now my new fave and I think everyone should have a whiff of it!

Next up I’ve been loving Une Cheery Lips Gloss. The name alone makes me smile to be honest, it’s very cute. I’ve sampled some of their lip products in the past and always found them quite pleasant to wear but this one really takes the makeup-related biscuit. It’s a new slightly more moisturizing formula and totally gorgeous to wear. Smooth, non-sticky and it has a decent level of staying power to boot. I’ve been using CO8, it looks quite dark in the tube but it’s actually about one shade darker then my natural lip colour, a sort of light peachy pink.

And now on to hair stuff. Dove sent me their latest range of hair products to try out; Nourishing Oil Care, which consists of shampoo, conditioner and a hair mask. I’ll cut to the chase immediately and say that I’m actually quite astounded by how good the shampoo is. The bottle says it promises to nourish dry, rough hair with it’s weightless nutri-oil formula without being greasy. I usually avoid anything with added oil ingredients in it like the plague as it weighs down my hair but this is a revelation. The lather it creates is amazing, it smells divine and really cleans the hair but you know sometimes when you’re towel drying you can actually feel the dryness in your hair after? That has completely disappeared for me after three weeks of using this and my hair feels super moisturized. I can’t actually get over it to be honest as it’s Dove, just your regular supermarket brand, something I’ve never taken that much notice of. The mask is even better! If I could faint for effect here to show you how bowled over I am by this I would. I’ve been applying it in place of conditioner once a week onto damp hair (it’s quite a thick cream so very satisfying to use) and leaving it on for about 20 minutes. As a result my hair is completely devoid of frizz, super soft and the issue I was having with extreme tangles seems to have disappeared too. Amazingly, my hair seems to have more volume after using this as opposed to being weighed down and limp as I had expected. Just to be sure, I packed it on into my roots a few days ago and left it on for an hour to see if it would weigh down and grease up my hair a bit but no, nothing. This might be true love folks!

Lastly, Ojon Restorative Serum. This is a miniature that came in a beauty box about two months ago and I immediately started using it as I’ve had great success with some of their products in the past. Happily, this one is no different and it’s perfect for applying to damp or dry hair to smooth out the ends and so on. I’ve been using it on the ends before blow-drying and then a little bit again after to smooth down any fly-aways. It’s very very good, not too heavy or sticky and still leaves the hair looking light and non-greasy. Result!

And there we are, a long rambly post about products I’ve been loving lately!

Let’s talk about SPF 🧴 SPF stands for Sun P Let’s talk about SPF 🧴

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor, and is a measure of protection from UV rays.

The sun emits two types of ultraviolet rays; UVA and UVB. When we think about SPF a lot of the time, we think about sunburn on the surface of our skin. This is caused by UVB rays. UVA rays on the other hand, penetrate the skin deeper, and can cause damage on a deeper level; think uneven skin tone, hyper-pigmentation, and sagging skin. UVA rays can also lead to skin cancer.

We’re all familiar with the different levels of SPF available in products in the market; SPF15, 20, 30, and so on. But what do those numbers mean and how much protection do they actually give you?

The number on the tube tells you how long you can stay in the sun while wearing that sunscreen without burning, compared to staying the same amount of time in the sun and not wearing that sunscreen. So, for example, if you apply SPF30, it would take you 30 times longer to burn than if you used no sunscreen.

In terms of blocking the suns rays, an SPF of 15 blocks 93% of UV rays. An SPF of 30 blocks 97%, and an SPF of 50 blocks 98%.

It’s important to remember, however, that no sunscreen can ever block sunburn and associated skin damage completely. Wearing sunscreen is only one part of effective sun protection; stay in the shade, wear a hat, apply sunscreen 😇

I’ve been having a hard time with neck and muscl I’ve been having a hard time with neck and muscle pain the last couple of days. This is something I experience pretty regularly because of chronic anxiety.
My anxiety is mostly physical, and so a ‘flare up’ (as I like to call it) usually looks like one or a mixture of these things:
Neck pain, muscle tension, muscle weakness, headaches, dizziness, brain fog, night terrors, and poor sleep in general.
In the past, it has also showed up as breathlessness, slurred speech, extreme dizziness, tingling in my hands and feet, muscle spasms and heart palpitations.
I have spoken about, and written about, my experience with anxiety many times, and I think it’s important to keep talking about it because so many of us are struggling.
I started taking anxiety medication last year, under guidance from my brilliant GP. It was one of the best decisions I made.
It turned my life around, and helped me - in the words of my GP; ‘start living again.’
This decision was stigmatized by some, which I found interesting. As it had absolutely nothing to do with them.
Of course, medication is not for everyone, and it’s not forever - but it does changes lives. It saves lives.
People who continue to stigmatize medication and mental illness in general, are the problem. Not you.
If you have anxiety or depression, it’s important that you know there is nothing ‘wrong with you’. You are not a lesser person because of it.
You are a person. And you are not alone.
So let’s keep talking about it ❤️
