You know when you walk into a place, immediately love it and feel at home? That’s what happened to me recently when I paid a visit to newly opened and totally zen M Beauty Lounge in Manama. Owned by the lovely (and super glam) Marcell Voges, it’s about to become the beauty lounge that others will compare themselves against. With an amazing array of services including everything hair (Brazilian Blowout too), massage, moroccan baths and scrubs, eyelash extensions and tinting, threading, waxing, manicures and pedicures (including Shellac) and other nail treatments, spray tan, cosmetic tattoo services, facials and ear candling on offer, it’s literally a one stop shop!
Marcell herself inspires serious hair envy with her amazing mane of blonde wavy hair and she kindly offered to not only put a few subtle waves in my own hair but tell me how to do it at home too! (I’ve tried many times myself but one side always seems to go the wrong way or I end up looking like a dolly bird with crazy ringlets) She put a bit of serum through the ends of my hair and literally turned my hair from flat and boring to fabulous and wavy in 10 minutes!
Her top tips? Always point the curling wand away from the face, never curl the ends (depending on how long your hair is leave about 2cm free from the wand) and start slightly down from the top of the head to make it look a bit more natural. If you’d like to add a bit of volume too, she recommends selecting about four small sections of hair (two towards the front and two towards the back) and curling them a little more tightly. They’ll soon drop but will leave a nice bit of oomph at the roots. And here’s the finished result!
Ta daaa! I feel like a new woman. Funnily enough, I think my ombre hair looks better when it has a few waves in it as it’s not as easy to see the difference between dark and blonde. Must start doing this myself at home!
For those of you who are based in Bahrain, the salon is opposite NBB Bank on Exhibition Avenue, on the first floor. Check out their Facebook page for more information!
