Weekend links #7

Something for the weekend round seven.

I paid a visit to The Pavilion in Downtown Dubai today with BNBL. It’s an open, arty space that serves up showrooms of new Dubai developments with a side of cafe cool. We both ordered the grilled chicken salad (pictured above), cappuccinos and some desert. Although the food was average, the venue is very “instagram worthy” – as Laura would say, and deserves a visit even just for a quick coffee.

My credit card begrudgingly handed over some dosh to ASOS this week (but not very much thankfully) for these leopard print plimsolls. I have been stalking them for the longest time and finally decided to buy them. Will they make my feet look like boats? Or will I look really cool and edgy in them? Only time will tell…

I attended a YSL event this week and spent some time with Zahra, the funny and super stylish lady behind Lyla Loves Fashion. I don’t mention a lot of Dubai blogs on here, but Zahra’s is worth a visit for the super sharp photography alone. She mainly covers fashion but throws in a bit of beauty and lifestyle for good measure so make sure to check it out.

Nars arrived in Dubai today but then, it didn’t. The much-awaited launch was supposed to be this morning in Sephora, Mall of the Emirates but there was a technical delay (?) and so nothing happened. It’s (supposedly) available from tomorrow though and then the counter in Sephora, Dubai Mall will open a few days later, so keep your eyes peeled. All I want is Nars Sheer Glow Foundation and Nars Creamy Concealer. That’s not too much, right?

I went to see Gone Girl last night and I have to admit – it left me reeling. It was bloody brilliant! Tense, thrilling and darkly funny in parts, I’m still thinking about it today and wondering halfheartedly whether reading the book now is a good idea? Have any of you read the book? Will the movie have ruined it for me? Answers on a postcard 🙂

Makeup-wise, nothing much to report except I’m still loving Estee Lauder Pure Colour Envy Lipsticks and a recent addition, Urban Decay De-Slick Mattifying Powder. An actual god-send of a product, but more on that another time.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend! 🙂

I read the book first and then saw the movie and I have to say its pretty much identical – But as always in the book they develop the characters a bit more… you should definitely read the book.. i think as you know the ending you may pick up other things that people who read it first missed.. the beginning is really slow so i fear i may have skipped over a lot trying to work out where it was going 🙂
I loved them both though – will definitely need to see it again!
    happy weekend

The book is great, and better than the movie (and I loved the movie) – I wouldn’t suggest skipping the book, as it definitely does expand on things in a way that the movie doesn’t, and can’t due to time constraints; however, the suspense factor that made the book and movie so great won’t be there since obviously you now know what really happened to Amy. That being said, the book is fabulous!!
