Weekend links #15

Weekend links no. 15! How did that happen?

A case for bad coffee. This piece moved me so much that I’m still thinking about it a week later. A simple, beautifully written reminder that bad coffee has always been there for us. When we’re up all night with a newborn, when we’re cramming for exams that we should have studied for, when we’re in hospital waiting for news of someone we love. So simple and true 🙂

This denim skirt. Ideal is the word I’d use to describe this skirt. Tanya Burr recommended it in a recent-ish haul, and I liked the look of it so much that I immediately bought it. It’s short, but not too short, nicely fitted at the waist, and it has an elastic waistband for extra comfort 🙂 I’ve been mainly wearing it to the beach with t-shirts, etc. – like in the above pic. Win.

Makeup #Goals by Sarah Ashcroft. I watched this makeup tutorial all the way to the end (unheard of). I may even have made a few notes about new products I might need 🙂 In a perfect world, I would love my face to look like this every day. I know it’s not for everyone, but there’s something really appealing to me about full on/full face makeup. Zero blemishes. Imagine?

Jay Rayner at his best. Make your day and read this restaurant review by British Journalist and restaurant critic, Jay Rayner. Known for his acerbic wit, I’ve been an avid reader of Jay’s work for years and this particular critique is an absolute zinger! Here’s a taster: “It is decorated in various shades of taupe, biscuit and fuck you.”

This review of Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation. Sandra is the queen of foundation reviews as far as I’m concerned, and this one is no exception. I feel like I really need to try this foundation, especially seeing as Sandra’s skin looks so incredible after a days wear with no touch-ups. It’s a bit spendy but I’m a big believer in #TreatYoSelf 🙂

This cool dress. Realistically, what will this dress look like on me? Nessa was over at the weekend sporting the black and white version and it looked super cool on her. I feel like it’s one of those pieces that could go either way on me. I love the idea of it, but I will most likely look like a sack in it. First world problems, eh? 🙂

That’s all for this week!

Thanks for reading and see you soon x

I’ve been having a hard time with neck and muscl I’ve been having a hard time with neck and muscle pain the last couple of days. This is something I experience pretty regularly because of chronic anxiety.
My anxiety is mostly physical, and so a ‘flare up’ (as I like to call it) usually looks like one or a mixture of these things:
Neck pain, muscle tension, muscle weakness, headaches, dizziness, brain fog, night terrors, and poor sleep in general.
In the past, it has also showed up as breathlessness, slurred speech, extreme dizziness, tingling in my hands and feet, muscle spasms and heart palpitations.
I have spoken about, and written about, my experience with anxiety many times, and I think it’s important to keep talking about it because so many of us are struggling.
I started taking anxiety medication last year, under guidance from my brilliant GP. It was one of the best decisions I made.
It turned my life around, and helped me - in the words of my GP; ‘start living again.’
This decision was stigmatized by some, which I found interesting. As it had absolutely nothing to do with them.
Of course, medication is not for everyone, and it’s not forever - but it does changes lives. It saves lives.
People who continue to stigmatize medication and mental illness in general, are the problem. Not you.
If you have anxiety or depression, it’s important that you know there is nothing ‘wrong with you’. You are not a lesser person because of it.
You are a person. And you are not alone.
So let’s keep talking about it ❤️
