Ha! I never thought I’d see the day, honestly. Here I am writing a post about downsizing my makeup collection, who would have thought it?! It’s been a long time coming really and I have been regularly bemoaning the sheer amount of stuff I’ve amassed over the last couple of years. Yes, some of the products were investment buys that I can’t be without but there’s also a lot of rubbish in there that I never use, limited edition MAC things I’ve been sucked into buying and so on.
The last few months I’ve given away so much stuff, and although my personal collection isn’t half as vast as it used to be there’s still a lot of products that I just don’t use anymore, and they make me feel guilty! So, from now on I’m on a mission. I’m going to be one of those super cool women who have one of those stunningly minimal personal makeup collections, with all lovely high quality products that never leave me wanting for anything else. I will not be sucked in by limited edition products (unless they’re amazeballs of course!) and I will have a ‘must have used it in the last 6 months’ rule on all products when I begin the ruthless culling of what’s left.
Here’s some of my current collection below that I have easy access to (I can’t face opening the storage cupboards underneath my desk yet) – it’s a bit of a mess which is good as it usually makes me realise that I do in fact have too much stuff that I never use. I don’t know what’s happened to me over the last few months but I’m really into having a much smaller selection of products. Eyeshadow’s are historically, my Achilles heel and there’s a whole drawer of them that I rarely ever use, and as for foundations I’ve definitely whittled them down quite significantly but there’s still too many in there that never see the light of day. Skincare is a whole other story though, so we just won’t go there for now…
Now, it doesn’t actually look that bad does it? But if you look a little closer, there are six bronzers in one drawer sitting alongside er, 6 blushers. Who needs six of either of those? Not me and not at the moment anyways. There’s also five foundations in another drawer, two on the counter top and another two in the Muji drawer set. I’d like to point out here that ‘past’ me would literally die at all these flippant things I’m saying; am I actually admitting that I don’t need all of this makeup? Yes, yes I think I am.
So there we have it, stage one of the cull begins. I’ll post an update in a month so you can see how my minimalistic er, fabulosity is coming along!
