The Husband and I took ourselves off to Abu Dhabi last weekend for a much-needed getaway. Things have been so crazy with work and moving house and finally getting ourselves properly set up in Dubai that this trip came at just the right time. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a weekend getaway as much!
We stayed in the Shangi-La Qaryat Al Beri, a beautiful hotel with its own private beach located between the two bridges in Abu Dhabi. When we arrived, I spent about an hour mooning around the hotel room first, as it truly was a thing of wonder – fabulous decor with the exact bathroom I want to have in my own house when I grow up. Once I finished taking notes we had some Chinese tea, checked our emails and then hit the beach. The weather was fabulous with a lovely breeze and we pondered the meaning of life and what cocktails to have whilst watching fellow holidaymakers zipping passed on jet skis. Tough, eh?
Later in the afternoon we headed over to the pool and had some lunch. I had an amazing BLT salad washed down with er, a strawberry daiquiri and The Husband had the best chicken quesadillas I’ve ever tasted in my life. The hotel was packed with holidaymakers and day visitors and there was a lovely relaxing atmosphere, which is just as well as after lunch I promptly went for the most epic nap ever.
That night we dined in Bord Eau, the hotels signature french cuisine restaurant and feasted on six courses of deliciousness paired with er, six different glasses of wine. Naturally, the next morning I felt amazing… We had a late breakfast the next day (I don’t know how we managed it, I seriously thought I’d never eat again) and headed to our friends apartment beside Yas Island for a gossip and a cuppa. All in all, total and utter bliss. I was most unhappy to leave but hey, it’s on to planning the next getaway now!
