Colour Treatment at Dessange Paris

Effectively, my natural hair colour is brown, but it’s quite ashy so I often colour it with a warmer shade, just to give it some life. I had a voucher to use at a well known salon here in Bahrain so I thought I’d try them out.

When I sat down for the consultation, I was unimpressed to be immediately hit with a sales pitch. Did I want this hair dye which was only ok, or did I want this hair dye that was loads better (but more expensive, which they didn’t offer up). Then, they pulled the hair off me while brushing it, pushed three products on me whilst I was making my way to the sink and once I’d sat down, hit me with it again – did I want an extra special treatment for my hair? I politely declined and was immediately told in a huffy voice that my hair ‘was in very bad condition and I needed it’. Can you believe that? Again, they didn’t offer up that the treatment was of course, extra, at 12bd (25 euro)!

They then did a pretty crap blow dry and sent me on my way. When I said the colour was a little darker then I expected, they told me it was now the same colour as my eyebrows and that’s the way it should be. Mmmm, ok. I was charged 46bd (about 92 euro) for a full colour, including a wash and blow dry. A little excessive I think, but I’m not sure anymore how much it would cost at home? Is it about the same?

The colour is alright (above right), but a bit on the dark side. I have to say I’m getting a bit sick of crap hair experiences, especially when they cost a pretty penny. I used to colour my mop at home for many years and now think its about time I went back to that.  Where do you stand on this? A home dye job, or salon styling all the way?

I actually really like the darker color! It’ll fade and lighten anyway. The water in this region sucks the life out of everything! hahaha

Up until a little earlier this year I was salon all the way, but financial necessity sent me back to home dying for the first time since my teens. And I have to say I’ve been really impressed! Home dye kits have come on a long way since I last used them; I’ve tried a few now and been happy with all of ’em.

Mmm and they’re not bad value are they, the home kits? I’ve tried Garnier a few times with great success, the only thing is I seem to get it everywhere except on my head!

I think the darker color suits you better than the previous color! Very pretty and youthful.
If I’m dying my hair brown then I’d much rather do it at home.

I agree, I like your hair color now, and it will lighten up a bit like Aseya said, horrible water.

I like the darker much better with your eye & skin color; your hair looks healthier, too. I, too, am off salon color. My hair is much healthier now, after serious research & work (check out “Phyto” and Purology). I care about my hair’s health. I never found, even at mid-high priced salons, a colorist who did enough to keep it from breaking. I have purchased several kits from various manufacturers. One down – good results. It contained a conditioner to use every so often with natural ingredients- like it.
