Illamasqua – The Final Art of Self Expression

When I got this email this morning from Illamasqua, I thought ooh another collection is being released or maybe its a set of essentials that we must have, but no no, I was wrong. How wrong could I have been? Well, read on…

“The Final Act of Self-Expression is a bespoke offering, providing professional funeral make-up transformations, applied by a specially trained Illamasqua make-up artist”.

Yes, that’s right. Illamasqua are now offering makeup services for dead people.
I’ll give you a moment to think about that…

Now, I’m not really sure how I feel about this. I read the email twice to make sure it was actually saying what I thought it was saying. I know Illamasqua have always branded themselves as your makeup “alter-ego”, something a bit different and out there but this is a little too much. I find it a little self-indulgent and insensitive.

Did I mention the price of having your makeup done when your dead “starts from 450GBP”? Yeah, that too.

A mortician is in fact the term used for the ”service” they’re providing. You wouldn’t believe how people have a certain pride when it comes to looking good hitting for the heavenly beauty halls in the sky. A large proportion of individuals would have an almost portfolio of the look, clothing, music, flowers and specific charity you would like your loved ones to donate to what may have been the cause of the untimely demise. I’ts a big big industry looking good when your dead,in fact it’s almost competition…….

*shudders* I realise that there are certain essential services that are required and thus provided in the world, but why is a fashion brand the one to charge through the nose for it…Also, I find Illamasqua to be hit and miss, what if they got it wrong?!

I find it to be extremely unnecessary, totally twisted, insensitive and just.. WRONG.
