Hall of Fame Hair Products

My hall of fame hair products. Everything I buy again and again for healthy, shiny, volumised hair.

Before we get started, I think it’s important to point out that I buy, try and use many hair products. I have nearly as many hair products as skincare products. I’m always searching for the next best texture spray, the next best volumising shampoo, and the next best dry shampoo.

My hair is quite fine, naturally straight, and a little flat, so I rely on many of products to give it lift, volume and texture. Because of this, I’m also big on clarifying treatments and masks as I try to counteract potential product overload/over-styling damage.

So, as a result – there are a lot of products listed in each category below 🙂

Shampoo and Conditioner

When it comes to shampoo and conditioner, I’m a creature of habit. I rotate around two or three different brands and use mostly volumising shampoo, and the occasional clarifying one.

Volumising Mousse, Root Sprays and Detanglers

Before I blow dry my hair, I spritz with a detangling spray, brush through, and then move on to a volumising mousse and/or root spray – depending on how much time I have. I swear by these kinds of products to not only give me instant lift, but to help me hold on to it for a couple of days. It’s amazing how the original volume kicks back in with a good brushing and a heavy spritz of texture spray.

Detoxifying / Clarifying

I use a clarifying treatment before I wash my hair (I wash my hair every six or seven days). This is either a clarifying shampoo or a clarifying scalp treatment. There’s a couple I rotate around, and they’re all linked below.

Treatments and Masks

I use a hair mask or treatment about once every two weeks. I like low-maintenance leave-in treatments, and the occasional thick mask that I slather on and rinse out after a couple of minutes. These are the ones I swear by.

Texture Sprays

I am completely addicted to texture sprays. My naturally flat, fine hair is nothing without them. I’m very particular about which ones I use and recommend. They have to be light, not sticky, not powdery (or crunchy once they dry down) and they need to give me root lift and texture/beach type waves in the body. There are many that tick all of these boxes, and I love them all. Some are on the more expensive side, and some are affordable, but they’re all incredible.

Dry Shampoo

Another product I use daily (and sometimes multiple times a day) is dry shampoo. Again, I’m really picky about dry shampoo. I have tried and binned more formulas than I’d like to admit. For me, dry shampoo has to be light, not powdery, leave zero residue, and actually soak up the oil in my hair.

Hair Oils and Serums

Because my hair is fine and flat, I generally only use oils and serums on the length and ends of my hair. They ones I use are super lightweight and pretty much undetectable on their hair (and otherwise it looks weighed down/greasy).

Hair Tools and Accessories

I use a couple of different brushes in my routine, and a few different styling tools. I’m currently contemplating the Dyson Air Wrap as everyone seems to rave about it, so I’ll update this list if/when I buy and try it.

Let’s talk about SPF 🧴 SPF stands for Sun P Let’s talk about SPF 🧴

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor, and is a measure of protection from UV rays.

The sun emits two types of ultraviolet rays; UVA and UVB. When we think about SPF a lot of the time, we think about sunburn on the surface of our skin. This is caused by UVB rays. UVA rays on the other hand, penetrate the skin deeper, and can cause damage on a deeper level; think uneven skin tone, hyper-pigmentation, and sagging skin. UVA rays can also lead to skin cancer.

We’re all familiar with the different levels of SPF available in products in the market; SPF15, 20, 30, and so on. But what do those numbers mean and how much protection do they actually give you?

The number on the tube tells you how long you can stay in the sun while wearing that sunscreen without burning, compared to staying the same amount of time in the sun and not wearing that sunscreen. So, for example, if you apply SPF30, it would take you 30 times longer to burn than if you used no sunscreen.

In terms of blocking the suns rays, an SPF of 15 blocks 93% of UV rays. An SPF of 30 blocks 97%, and an SPF of 50 blocks 98%.

It’s important to remember, however, that no sunscreen can ever block sunburn and associated skin damage completely. Wearing sunscreen is only one part of effective sun protection; stay in the shade, wear a hat, apply sunscreen 😇

I’ve been having a hard time with neck and muscl I’ve been having a hard time with neck and muscle pain the last couple of days. This is something I experience pretty regularly because of chronic anxiety.
My anxiety is mostly physical, and so a ‘flare up’ (as I like to call it) usually looks like one or a mixture of these things:
Neck pain, muscle tension, muscle weakness, headaches, dizziness, brain fog, night terrors, and poor sleep in general.
In the past, it has also showed up as breathlessness, slurred speech, extreme dizziness, tingling in my hands and feet, muscle spasms and heart palpitations.
I have spoken about, and written about, my experience with anxiety many times, and I think it’s important to keep talking about it because so many of us are struggling.
I started taking anxiety medication last year, under guidance from my brilliant GP. It was one of the best decisions I made.
It turned my life around, and helped me - in the words of my GP; ‘start living again.’
This decision was stigmatized by some, which I found interesting. As it had absolutely nothing to do with them.
Of course, medication is not for everyone, and it’s not forever - but it does changes lives. It saves lives.
People who continue to stigmatize medication and mental illness in general, are the problem. Not you.
If you have anxiety or depression, it’s important that you know there is nothing ‘wrong with you’. You are not a lesser person because of it.
You are a person. And you are not alone.
So let’s keep talking about it ❤️
