So I finally got around to having a proper gander at Gucci Cosmetics.
It’s available at Harvey Nichols in Mall of the Emirates, and has been for some time, but now you can also get your paws on it from Paris Gallery in Dubai Mall, as of this week. I threw my eye over the stand in Harvey Nichols once or twice but never looked with much interest if I’m honest so when Gucci invited me to a little sit down and a chat with their regional artist last week I thought yes, I will do that. Excellent idea.
So, after a chat with Kate, and a bit of a play with the range, these are my thoughts:
It’s obviously quite an expensive range, but then again so is the packaging – it really is quite impressive and very luxurious. I feel like you nearly get your moneys worth with the packaging alone.
The skincare/priming stuff is all a bit same, samey. Nothing new – and although the texture and smell of all is quite nice I could never see myself buying any of it.
The foundation is nice but again nothing mega-special. It’s a light to medium coverage foundation that gives a normal, slightly dewy finish
The eyeshadows, especially the mono’s are to die for. The pigmentation is insane, the colours a beautiful, the packaging is delicious and they last a really, really long time on the skin. Iconic Gold is probably one of the most incredible eyeshadows I have ever clapped eyes on. It’s a delicious dirty green-gold shade with an almost foil-like finish. Absolutely stunning.
The kohl pencils were nice and very long-lasting but would I buy them over say, Make Up For Ever Aqua Liners or Bourjois Kohl liners? No, definitely not.
The lipsticks are very, very nice. They come in two types: audacious and luxurious, both incredibly pigmented but the latter is significantly creamier and more moisturising. Great shade selection available and they seem to last quite a long time. I got Purpurite (pictured above), a lovely deep berry/purple shade.
And that’s it really. If you wanted to splurge on a piece or two I would definitely recommend a mono eyeshadow or a lipstick, but that’s it for now – it’s not the kind of brand I can see myself returning to time and time again at the moment.
Now, in other news – I’m having major concealer issues. I currently use a combination of Bobbi Brown corrector and Nars Creamy Concealer and for some crazy reason, they have both started to crease like a mo fo. So I either need a good under eye concealer base (is there such a thing?) or a brand new full coverage concealer. What one are you using right now? Recommendations please! 🙂

I’m using the hourglass concealer at the moment, can’t remember what it’s called exactly but it twists up like a stick. It’s kicked nars creamy concealer to the back of the drawer. It’s so lovely, the nars seems to slip off my skin after a while in the hot Aussie heat, but so far the hourglass has been amaze.

February 21, 2015 at 8:00 pmHi Simone,
February 21, 2015 at 8:40 pmI’m using the same combination of under eye concealers than you, my skin is oily and they don’t budge!
I’m using my Nars base under my eye (if it’s working for the eyelids, it’s also working on the under-eye area; the skin is exactly the same all around the eyes 😉 )
And I’m using a powder to set everything in place, right after I finished to apply my 2 concealers.
I’m using the Nars translucent Crystal one, a luminous powder. It’s perfect for the area and it brightens!
I hope it helps! 🙂
Hi Bonnie, I tried this yesterday! It totally stayed in place but then it looked a bit dry by the afternoon – still a massive improvement though, so thanks for the tip! 🙂
February 23, 2015 at 6:57 pmYes, I guess if you’re not on the oily side like me, it can be slightly drying…
Oh and apparently, you’re not alone in this war against creasing concealers! 😉

February 23, 2015 at 6:58 pmNars radiant Creamy also went cakey on me after a while. I am currently loving Diorskin Star Concealer. Diorskin Nude Concealer works ver well too, but Star is my current fave.
February 22, 2015 at 2:04 pmOoh Bella, is it really good? I only tried it once when I was buying the foundation and found it a bit light coverage-wise.
February 23, 2015 at 6:59 pmIt reminds me of bond girls- so classy and classic!

February 22, 2015 at 3:03 pmWhat what! I did not know about this duo launch! When did it come out?
February 23, 2015 at 7:00 pmI’m having the same issue with those concealers at the moment. so I’m going to try some of these recommendations 🙂
