Question from Anisha.
When you first start to experiment with makeup, it’s important to get a few high quality pieces that you can play around with and eventually master. Happily, high quality does not mean high price, some of my favourite eye shadow’s, liners and so on are from drugstore brands, which I will list out below.
Eyeshadow – It’s important to have more than one eyeshadow colour, so you can play around with the tones, create a neutral smoky eye and apply a little highlight under the brow bone etc however, this doesn’t mean you have to look at and try and match up a lot of different individual eye shadow’s. Go for a neat little palette that has all the shades you need. I love Bourjois Smoky Eye Trio or Sleek Au Natural Palette, pictured above. Bourjois is available from most drugstores and Sleek from their website.
Eyeliner – A decent eyeliner is a must in everyone’s makeup bag. Rimmel and Maybelline have great kohl pencil versions, or if you want a little more substance to your liner, try a gel formula. Again, Maybelline have one of the best gel liner’s on the market at the moment, fabulous quality, affordable and it comes with a great little brush too.
Mascara – There are so many great affordable mascara’s on the market at the moment that offer the whole package; they lengthen, separate, thicken etc. Rimmel Day 2 Night is a good place to start, it’s cheap and it has two brushes that make your lashes longer and thicker. They can be used separately or together for a more dramatic lash look.
Lipgloss – There are so many great lipgloss formula’s to choose from, it’s hard to recommend just one. Some standouts for me over the last couple of months have been Bourjois 3D Gloss, all of Rimmel’s glosses, Bobbi Brown’s and lots more. The best thing to do is start with something cheap, figure out what kind of colours you like and go from there.
Hope this helps!
