They are actually calling it Ya Kun Coffee and Tea here but I refuse to accept that, so I’m sticking with the original. I used to frequent this famous tea and toast spot in Singapore and absolutely loved it so when I heard they had opened a branch here, I nearly cried with happiness!
I’ve been twice in the past week but thought I’d make it third time lucky this morning, and I dragged Laura along with me. I’ve been bending her ear about how amazing the place is and really wanted her to try it.
It’s located in China Court in IBN Battuta Mall, so it’s inside one of the dinky Chinese style houses out on the terrace. There are not a huge amount of tables and chairs and the place was heaving when we got there but we still managed to nab a seat in the corner. We ordered kaya toast with butter, peanut toast with kaya, hard-boiled eggs, a cappuccino and tea c, which is sweet tea with milk. Kaya is a jam, green-ish in colour and predominantly made of coconut. Sounds weird, but it tastes absolutely delicious. Also, the eggs usually come soft-boiled – which is more on the runny side (puke) so we asked for hard-boiled instead. Once they arrived, we laced them with soy sauce and chomped away to our hearts content.
A set (toast of your choice, tea or coffee and two eggs) costs Dhs23 but it’s buy one get one free at the moment so it was literally cheap as chips. If you’re in Dubai and you fancy trying something new, that’s very easy on the pocket, give this a go – you won’t regret it!
